Two young Redlands addicts who have since purportedly kicked their methamphetamine habit have fronted court after a police raid on their home uncovered more than 4g of ice, thousands in cash, a tick sheet and drug paraphernalia.
Alexandra Hills couple Braden Peter Hickey, 25, and Chantel Louise Barron, 26, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday to multiple drug charges stemming from a search warrant on February 19 last year.
The search uncovered 4.96g of pure ice in 6.5g of substance, hidden by Barron within a hoodie pocket in the closet; digital scales and clipseal bags; $2055 cash shoved inside a pillowcase; nearly a gram of cannabis; and a tick sheet on Hickey’s phone called ‘Tickey’s hick sheet’.
Both were charged with possessing a Schedule 3 quantity of ice; Barron was charged with possessing a dangerous drug, cannabis; while Hickey was charged with possessing the proceeds of a crime and property used in the commission of a crime (mobile phone).
Incredibly, the duo have had 14 prior court appearances between them prior to today.
Hickey breached a probation order and suspended sentence in committing the current offences, while Barron was placed on probation the day prior to the search warrant.
It was accepted by the Crown that Hickey, who the court heard had since moved to Morayfield to live with his mother, was the driving force behind the supply of ice, while Barron merely tolerated it.
The court heard they had both been clean since last year.
Despite the wealth of chances afforded Hickey previously, he was given one more, with a two-year sentence imposed with immediate court-ordered parole, while Barron was sentenced to 18 months with immediate parole.
