AUTHORITIES will hold a crisis meeting tomorrow to discuss ways security can be bolstered at a vandalism-prone car park.

Weinam Creek car park at Redland Bay is the regional gateway for residents but for years it has been a target for vandalism, with cars smashed, slashed and broken into on almost a daily basis.

Redland Bay police officers have recently increased patrols of the area after it was revealed residents had resorted to installing security cameras on their cars to stop the attacks.

Tomorrow, Queensland Police with TransLink and Redland City Council will hold a meeting to discuss security at the carpark and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Last year, the council drafted the MOU with Queensland Police and TransLink to ensure that when security cameras are installed in November, the footage would be managed by the State Government.

State Labor MP for Redlands Kim Richards said at the meeting tomorrow, all parties would sign the document and discuss ongoing maintenance of the cameras.

“This includes looking at ways council, TransLink and police can better share CCTV footage as well as what opportunities there are, if any, for additional security cameras,” Ms Richards said.

In March, the Federal Government provided $50,000 to install 15 CCTV cameras in the carpark.

But with installation still three months away, Officer In Charge at Redland Bay Police Station Steve Graham said police had made the security of Weinam Creek Marina Carparks a high priority.

Sgt Graham said the station had sought assistance from the Criminal Investigation Branch, Water Police, Tactical Crime Squad and Road Policing officers to increase patrols.

“An action plan has been commenced and will continue to run throughout September,” he said.

“This will include covert and foot patrols.”

Police are urging anyone with any information that may assist their investigations to contact Redland Bay Police on 38294111, policelink 131 444 or crimestoppers on 1800 300 000.
