Amanda Deslyn Moore, 44, cops three months prison with immediate parole

A southern Moreton Bay island woman on probation for drug offending since 2015 lasted mere hours before police busted her at it again.

The surprising history of meth

A Russell Island serial drug offender has narrowly avoided imprisonment after a court heard she was busted mere hours after a court hearing for drug offending.

Appearing at Cleveland Magistrates Court on Tuesday Amanda Deslyn Moore, 44, pleaded guilty to a string of offences.

They included possessing dangerous drugs, possessing property suspected to have been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence and possessing drug utensils.

The court heard police serving a warrant on another person at Moore’s island residence on November 23 could smell a strong odour of cannabis on the defendant’s person.

She told officers she had just come home from a drug-related court appearance and had intended to get rid of her illegal stash when she was “overcome” by stress and bowed to her addiction.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Duncan Blackburn said officers found a bowl with chopped cannabis, a grinder, 1 gram of cannabis, clipseal bags and scissors in Moore’s possession.

It followed a police raid on the defendant’s house on May 13 when officers found 0.4 grams meth, less than 1 gram cannabis, a bong, a used glass pipe used for smoking meth, four Oxycodone tablets, two brass cones and two mobile phones holding evidence of drug possession.

Prosecutors urged a term of imprisonment given Moore’s significant history of drug offending, which included being on probation for similar offences since 2015.

Defence solicitor Katelyn Sherrin said her client had not reoffended since November and planned to move to the mainland to avoid drug offending acquaintances.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta had heard enough, stating the court would simply be wasting its time by sentencing Moore to yet more probation.

The defendant was sentenced to three months’ jail with immediate parole granted.

A conviction was recorded.
