Sally Riley, 40, known best for her fundraising for the local sporting community and her brains behind the scenes at Greenplate in Capalaba, died on Sunday February 18, 2024 from cervical cancer.

Mrs Riley was the mother of 13-year-old Mitchell and 12-year-old Riley.

She and her husband Dave Tape met in 2021 just before they were both about to “give up on love”.

Mr Tape said Mrs Riley’s beautiful character made him feel like no one ever has before.

“She loved taking the kids and dogs on camping and fishing trips to Straddie and all over,” Mr Tape said.

“She was always so happy and in a good mood, she was so fun and I’d never felt anything before like she made me feel every day,” he said.

Mrs Riley’s health struggles began in September 2023 when she began experiencing severe back pains.

Mr Tape said several visits to the hospital proved unsuccessful as doctors attributed her pain to endometriosis or period pain.

“The day before her birthday on October 2 she went back to the hospital as the pain had become unbearable,” Mr Tape said.

“They finally run blood markers which showed stage four cervical cancer.

“For of her boys, she underwent chemotherapy and immunotherapy which only made it grow faster,” he said.

Mr Tape said the family received overwhelming support from their extended family.

“Sally’s sister and mother are both nurses so thankfully she got to come home once we realised treatments weren’t working,” Mr Tape said.

“She was in the comfort of her mother’s home and we were all with her when she passed,” he said.

Mr Tape said she was an “awesome person” who would do anything for anyone.

“She was always helping out and the week before she was diagnosed we attended her boy’s football game in Sydney after we fundraised,” he said.

The family have set up a GoFundMe to support Ms Riley’s children. $6265 has been raised by supporters already.
