Alexandra Hills Bakery faces thousands in damages after early-morning break-in

A southeast Queensland baker has turned up to work to find more than $5000 worth of damage to his business, with police in attendance and the person allegedly responsible under arrest.

Alexandra Hills Bakery suffers break-in

A community has rallied around its bakery after a brazen break-in left a family shocked and contemplating thousands in damages.

A 31-year-old South Brisbane man is scheduled to appear at the Cleveland Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with two counts of enter premise and commit an indictable offence, two counts of wilful damage and one count of stealing for allegedly breaking into the Alexandra Hills Bakery early this morning.

It is understood a second suspect is still at large.

The ugly incident, which left the bakery in a complete mess, with a fridge smashed, security door pulled off its hinges, Wi-Fi and CCTV cords cut and produce spread throughout has come as a slap in the face for the Truong family who only opened its doors last year.

Cassandra Truong said her father arrived at the bakery at 2.30am to start work only to discover three police vehicles and an alleged perpetrator under arrest.

Ms Truong said a neighbour, woken by the racket made at the premises, had called police at around 1.30am.

“We were in shock; we knew the risks of running a business but never realised it would come to this,” Ms Truong said.

“But we are very grateful that we are all safe and that no one was hurt.

“I feel just so worried about my dad and what could have happened had he have had to face them.”

Bakers for some 25 years the Truong family received “wonderful” support from the community after purchasing the business last year, and were heartened today when multiple residents offered to help with the clean-up.

Bizarrely, Ms Truong said the alleged thieves stole a great many croissants found scattered behind the business with damages estimated at around $5000.

The family has temporarily shut the business, thanked the community for its support and will announce its reopening on social media.

A police spokesman said the matter was under investigation and anyone with information is urged to call Police Link on 131 444.
