ALDI Alexandra Hills at 157-169 Finucane Rd will gain 170 sqm in floor space and a host of internal improvements as well as extra parking, which will increase from 72 – 76 spaces.
According to a development report population growth in Alexandra Hills and the Redlands drove the planned renovation.
Alexandra Hills local Tracy West said as a single mum with a child who has a disability she welcomes the renovation.
“I think it is a good thing,” Ms West said.
“I definitely save some money shopping here so the bigger they can make the store, the better.
“And we need more variety in shopping.”
Kim Rogerson of Cleveland was likewise enthused and said she looks forward to having more space to manoeuvre while she shops, especially while social distancing is front of mind.
An ALDI spokesman could not confirm the project budget or its time-frame but assured the works would start in the near future.
“We are excited to confirm that ALDI Alexandra Hills will undergo an extension and store refurbishment to create a more enjoyable shopping experience for our customers,” the spokesman said.
“In addition to extending the retail space to give our customers more room to navigate the aisles, the new store features will include redesigned shelving, expanded wooden produce bays, as well as extended energy efficient chillers.
“As energy management remains a key priority for ALDI, the store will transition to energy efficient LED lighting. There will also be improved point-of-sale displays and store signage.
“At this time, we cannot confirm when the refurbishment will be complete.
“We will continue to update the community as our plans progress.”
It comes as Alexandra Hills reaps the benefits of nearby Capalaba’s growing attraction as a big-box retail destination.
