The Wellington, a $60 million East Brisbane/Woolloongabba project has been fashioned on New York’s Chelsea Markets with the ground floor offering providores, artisan retailers, restaurants and cafes.

The 127-apartment project by EPV Developments will be built at the corner of Overend St and Wellington Rd, just a block from the Gabba.

EPV Developments director Denis Mackenzie said Brisbane’s inner south was becoming a lifestyle destination of choice.

“We wanted to make the most of this prime location by creating a development where residents can enjoy convenient and luxurious inner-city apartment living with captivating city views and a real sense of style and sophistication about where they are living,” he said.

The Wellington marketing agent Adrian Parsons from Total Property Group said there had been strong interest in the apartments, which are priced from $354,000.

“East Brisbane is a high-growth area experiencing increasing and ongoing demand from buyers and tenants due to the limited availability of new apartment developments in this particular area,” he said.

“The population of the East Brisbane and Woolloongabba area has increased by an average growth rate of 2.9 per cent over the past 10 years, which is significantly higher than the average population growth rate across Brisbane City as a whole of 1.9 per cent.”

Construction on The Wellington is expected to start in May this year with completion estimated for late 2017.

Residents of the one and two-bedroom apartments will have access to a rooftop pool and entertainment area plus a barbecue garden and relaxation zone on level two.

The building will also feature a central tropical atrium.
