The notorious Bardon roundabout will get a $1 million upgrade if the LNP wins the October 31 state election, candidate for Maiwar Lauren Day has announced.

Mrs Day and Shadow Transport and Main Roads spokesman Steve Minnikin announced the plan this morning after an LNP petition to fix the roundabout.

The upgrade would include better signage before the crossing, including Slow for

Sam flashing signs, and improvements to noise walls along Boundary Rd.

The roundabout is clogged with traffic during peak hour and morning and afternoon drop-off/pick-up at nearby Rainworth State School.

“This is a priority for an LNP Government,” Mr Minnikin said.

Mrs Day said it was very dangerous for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

“I am proud to be part of a team that can deliver a much-needed upgrade and

keep locals safe,” she said.

“I am also concerned about the excessive noise along Boundary Rd.’’

She said Labor was given $10 million from the federal LNP Government to design and

upgrade the MetRoad 5 in Bardon but had “done nothing’’.

This section of the road includes the Bardon roundabout, Rouen Rd, Boundary Rd, Macgregor

Tce, Jubilee Tce and Frederick St.

However, her Greens opponent in Maiwar, Michael Berkman, recently took credit for some minor improvements agreed to by the Labor State Government including handrails and tree trimming.

He had also asked the State Government to consider dropping the speed limit on MetRoad 5 to 50kmh.

Mrs Day said the LNP’s improvements to the roundabout would involve community consultation and ensure a positive outcome for the whole community.

“While Labor has forgotten this roundabout, I’m listening to parents who tell me every day they are worried about their children using the crossing at the roundabout to get to school,” Mrs Day said.

“The LNP team will work hard to deliver this upgrade because we put the safety of

families first.”

She said the LNP also recently announced free off-peak train and bus travel for seniors, including weekends and public holidays.

“It is great news for thousands of locals. University and TAFE students will also be given $500 travel vouchers for trains and buses,’’ she said.

“The announcement is a huge win for students in Bardon.’’
