Park Ridge FC, Logan Basketball: Games cancelled amid COVID outbreak

Less than two months after earning back our freedoms after eliminating community transmission, Queenslanders are once again staring at the precipice of a lockdown after six new COVID cases were detected in the past 48 hours.
In light of the outbreak, a number of community organisations and sporting clubs have made the call to cancel events scheduled for this weekend, as southeast Queensland holds its collective breath to see whether the outbreak is a spark or a bonfire.

Area of particular concern, according to Queensland Health, are Logan, Acacia Ridge and Springfield Lakes.
Businesses at Sunnybank and South Bank have also been affected.
Acacia Ridge
- The inaugural ‘Ridge Saturday Markets’ were to be this Saturday from 7am – 2pm. Hosted by the YMCA Acacia Ridge Youth Centre at 10 Manning St, the event was to showcase young entrepreneurs and give them a chance to create a community. Phone 3277 0911 for more information.
- The monthly markets at Souths Sports Club at 147 Mortimer Rd Acacia Ridge, which were to be held on Sunday, have been cancelled. Organiser Soula Tsoumbaras said she hopes the markets will be back next month.
Calamvale
- Calamvale Leopards Junior AFCs home ground at Beaudesert Rd Park has been closed. An Auskick session scheduled for tomorrow will not go ahead.
Coopers Plains
- St David’s Neighbourhood Centre at 68 Orange Grove Rd has been temporarily closed and all activities will be suspended until Monday, at which point a decision will be made on reopening the centre. The centre was due to hold its monthly free community breakfast tomorrow. People in need of assistance can still phone 3274 3240 or email community@stdavidsnc.org.au.
- Stay N Play playgroup at St David’s Neighbourhood Centre is closed tomorrow and Monday. The St David’s Thrift Shop will also be closed today and a decision on whether to open next week will be made on Monday morning.
Park Ridge
- Queensland Ballet has postponed its Community Classes at the Logan Dance Academy at Park Ridge this Sunday while COVID-19 contact tracing is occurring in the area. QBs Education Teaching Artists were set to start a two-month community engagement tour in Logan this weekend before it reaching far and wide across 15 regional locations in Queensland. All other workshops are set to go ahead as planned. A new date is TBC.
- All Park Ridge FC training sessions (Friday – Sunday) and games (home at Hubner Park and away) have been cancelled. Hubner Park will also remain closed to all training and games including Cricket, QIF football and Greenbank Touch Football (Friday night competitions). A number of students and staff from Parklands Christian College, where a positive case worked, are also either players or volunteers at the club.
- Tonight’s Park Ridge Pirates AFC training has been cancelled. However, at this stage, this weekend’s gamres are going ahead.
Shailer Park
- Logan Basketball has announced all basketball activity at Cornubia Park Sports Centre will be suspended until further notice, affecting training, competition, and venue access. “This is a precautionary measure due to recent COVID cases in Logan and players and coaches potentially having come into contact with COVID contact tracing areas,” the club said online.
