Optus 5G comes to Toowong

Optus head of 5G Harvey Wright has announced the service has been turned on in Toowong.

Toowong Optus 5G customers can now enjoy upload and download speeds more than twice as fast as those offered by the NBN.

Optus Head of 5G, Harvey Wright, said its 5G customers with 5G-enabled phones would automatically enjoy the faster speeds.

“Your phone switches automatically in the background, between 3g, 4G and 5G,’’ he said.

“One key benefit it will deliver is faster speeds.

“We’re seeing some interesting speed results with our home products of 200 megabits per second.

“The future is 5G. If you buy 5G you future-proof your phone.’’

The company’s home product is essentially a wireless, plug in and forget alternative to broadband and costs about $70 a month.

NBNco recently announced a range of faster speeds but the average Australian has access to 50 megabit per second products.

It’s customers however have been able to upgrade to 100 megabits per second for some time

now.

‘We’re in the early stages of deployment,’’ Mr Wright said.

“We’re rolling out new sites now almost every week.

“There are 145 sites in Queensland alone and 400,000 households are connected across Australia.’’

Milton and The Gap have the most comprehensive Optus 5G coverage in the westside.

But parts of Ashgrove, Bellbowrie, Kenmore, Kelvin Grove, Paddington, Pullenvale and auchenflower also have coverage.
