Australian Olympic shooter and Redcliffe nurse Paul Adams will receive coronavirus treatment training this week as he prepares for the resumption of elective surgery.

Australian Olympic shooter and Redcliffe nurse Paul Adams will receive coronavirus treatment training this week as he prepares for the resumption of elective surgery.

The Redcliffe resident, a theatre nurse in both the public and private sectors as well as with the Royal Australian Navy reservists, said he was looking forward to getting back to work.

At an urgent national cabinet meeting today, the Federal Government announced the gradual resumption of elective surgery from next week after it was placed on hold in anticipation of more Australians needing coronavirus treatment.

But early predictions which saw some experts anticipating hospitals to be overrun with up to 150,000 coronavirus patients has not come to fruition.

Adams and fellow theatre nurses will this week be briefed on the treatment procedures for coronavirus patients prior to elective surgery restarting.

“I will view it like any other infectious disease,’’ Adams said.

“It is new and scary because we have not identified a cure, but you just have to keep your wits about you and treat it like all other infectious disease in terms of hygiene.’’

A few days ago Adams was confirmed on the Australian shooting team which will compete at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.

It will be his second Olympics after he attended the Games in Rio, 2016.

Adams is a world class shooter with multi bronze and silver medals to his name from Commonwealth Games, World Cup and World Championship competitions.
