Woman was told she risked being arrested after she gave the court the wrong phone number, all for three charges that she could only be fined for.

A woman who gave a magistrate her mother-in-law’s phone number had to rush to court to avoid a warrant being issued.

When Waikamania Lovey Mara Tana-Puru did not show up to Pine Rivers Magistrates Court Magistrate Melanie Ho rang the phone number Tana-Puru had given the court.

But the number was actually her boyfriend’s mother.

Waikamania Lovey Mara Tana-Puru pleaded guilty to driving and unregistered and uninsured car while she was unlicensed.

Ms Ho told the woman if Tana-Puru did not turn up at court a warrant could be issued and she would likely be arrested.

“Court isn’t a McDonalds,” Ms Ho said.

“She needs to get here by midday or a warrant may issue.”

Tana-Puru did appear in court and pleaded guilty to driving while unlicensed, driving an unregistered car and driving an uninsured car.

The court heard on Sunday, July 19 police pulled over Tana-Puru in a hatchback after she drove out of Bob Bell Park in Strathpine and onto Hervey St.

The car had not been registered since 2017 and because of that was uninsured.

Police asked for her licence but she told them she did not have one.

Tana-Puru was fined $500 and a conviction was recorded.
