Urban Utilities: social distancing required on work site
A crew of Brisbane contractors were caught in the spotlight last night in New Farm appearing not to engage in social distancing during pipeline works.

As social distancing measures to deal with the coronavirus ramp up impacting events like funerals, weddings and beach walks, a group of contractors working overnight appeared to break all the restrictions.
At least 10 contractors working for Queensland Urban Utilities were witnessed on site in New Farm overnight with no social distancing observed as they carried out pipeline works.
The crews were seen milling around vehicles and gathering in close groups.

The News contacted Queensland Urban Utilities which confirmed the workers at the Bowen Terrace, New Farm worksite were carrying out work for the water company.
An Urban Utilities spokeswoman said contractors were carrying out work in New Farm to replace a water main along Moreton St.
“All our contractors are required to adhere to social distancing as much as possible while carrying out essential works,” the spokeswoman said.
“We take this seriously and are following up with the contractor to get a better understanding of the work last night and to ensure all workers understand the procedures in place to support social distancing requirements.”

“This includes maintaining at least a 1.5 metre distance between people when working.”
She said water and sewage works had been deemed essential works by the State Government.
