Brisbane independent school Clayfield College will add an extra class in each year level from Prep to Year 5 from 2023 to meet growing demand for enrolments.
The move comes less than a year after it announced the inner-north school would go fully coeducational in 2023 as well.
Clayfield is presently co-ed from Prep to Year 6 and all-girls from Years 7-12.
Under a Parallel Learning model to be introduced next year, Year 10 students would come together for selected classes before joining fully coeducational classes in Years 11 and 12.
Boys would be added to the secondary school, one cohort at a time, until Clayfield was fully coeducational in 2027.
College Principal, Dr Andrew Cousins, said the decision to add more classes was in response to strong enrolment demand from local families.
“We already have families on waiting lists for these (younger) years,’’ he said.
“With continued strong inquiry levels and demand for our tours, we felt it was the right time to announce the increase and allow families time to plan their educational arrangements for 2023.”
Dr Cousins said the Parallel Learning model was unique in Brisbane and combined the advantages of single sex and coeducational education, offering the “best of both worlds”.
“Families are appreciating the opportunity for a coeducational offering at one of Brisbane’s finest schools,’’ Dr Cousins said.
