POLICE have been called to The Gap State High after a threat was found written in graffiti on school grounds.
The threat was found written on the wall inside a toilet block at the school.
In a letter emailed to parents, The Gap State High principal Anne McLauchlan informed them of an incident that occurred at the school late yesterday.
“After school, some graffiti of a threatening nature was discovered at The Gap State High School. We immediately referred this to police and the school is continuing to work closely with them in the investigation of this matter,” she wrote.
“I want to reassure you that we treat the safety and welfare of your children, our students, as our highest priority at all times.”
Ms McLauchlan said she was unable to go into specific details while the matter is under police investigation.
“During this time it is vitally important not to engage in speculation or commentary online or elsewhere to allow investigators to do their job,” she said.
“I will keep you informed about the progress of this matter and would ask that if you or your child notices anything unusual that you immediately contact the school office or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
Ms McLauchlan said the safety and welfare of students continues to be the highest priority for the school.
“I will continue to work closely with the Queensland Police in responding to this matter.
“While our wonderful staff will continue to focus on delivering our education program, I have also arranged for additional support to be available at the school for students and staff,” she wrote.
Queensland Police said they were aware of the matter and are investigating, but would not comment further.
