The line up is still underwraps but TEDxBrisbane is headed to the Howard Smith Wharves

Better be quick to get your seat at the December TEDxBrisbane Festival - it has a new location and an exciting line up that organisers are keeping close to their chests.

WHILE TEDxBrisbane are keeping the line-up for their December festival underwraps they have just announced the spectacular new venue.

TEDx attendees will descend on Brisbane’s stunning Howard Smith Wharves conference facilities, making TEDxBrisbane one of the first events to be held at the venue.

TEDxBrisbane Executive Director Juanita Wheeler said with the “stunning new location” and popularity of TED and TEDx Talks, hopeful attendees would have to move quickly to secure seats.

“There’s always strong demand to attend TEDxBrisbane, both from people who have attended before and want to soak up the experience again, and people who love TEDx Talks and want to experience it live and local in their own city.

“We always receive more applications than there are spaces but that allows us to hand-pick the audience, filling it with people looking to make a positive difference in the world,” Ms Wheeler said.

The event, which identifies itself as a community, driven by hand-picking every member of the audience to find “Brisbane’s best thinkers, doers and changemakers” is expected to release details of the line-up over the coming weeks.

“It’s also an incredibly diverse crowd. Seated on one side of you can be someone who has donated millions of dollars to set up a charitable foundation and on the other might be a university student who is living on two-minute noodles but gives up three hours each week to teach refugees how to read,” Ms Wheeler said.

“It’s not how you’re making a difference but that you want to.”

Built around the theme “What’s Next” Howard Smith Wharves director Adam Flaskas said the ethos of TEDx Brisbane couldn’t have been a better fit with venue.

“TEDxBrisbane brings together and celebrates inspirational ideas worth sharing which totally taps into Howard Smith Wharves’ ethos of championing innovation, collaboration and creativity in the Brisbane community,” Mr Flaskas said.

“Howard’s Hall is an integral part of the game-changing precinct that will reactivate 3.4 hectares of Brisbane’s picturesque riverside and combines a down-to-earth optimism while relishing in simple things done exceptionally, from the beauty of architecture and natural surrounds to good food, wine and community.

We are thrilled to be hosting TEDxBrisbane at Howard Smith Wharves and with uninterrupted riverfront views, spanning the iconic Story Bridge and city skyline, we hope the people of Brisbane and beyond will enjoy this iconic location as a cultural hub for thought-leaders and changer makers alike.”
