ONE of north Brisbane’s most popular markets will reopen this weekend after being shut down for months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Jan Power Mitchelton Farmers Markets on Blackwood St will restart on Sunday after organisers received an outpouring of community support for the event’s return.
The Jan Power organisation runs three markets across Brisbane, at the Powerhouse, Mitchelton and Manly.
The Manly and Powerhouse markets ran throughout the shutdown, with stalls placed further apart in order to meet social distancing measures.

New date to re-open four of Brisbane’s biggest markets
With the Mitchelton markets restarting from Sunday, all three will be running as before the pandemic shutdown.
Jan Powers Farmers Markets director Astrid Gates said the Mitchelton markets had been too costly to keep running as they are held on a street which limited space and increased costs.
“To meet the distancing rules our stall numbers have been down 48 per cent,” Ms Gates said.
“It’s been very difficult; we’ve just been trying to keep our head above water.”
But Ms Gates said the company had received messages from north west Brisbane asking when the Blackwood St markets would be reopening.
“We’ve had a lot of interest from our community about Blackwood St starting up again,” she said.
“It’s such a community event for a lot of people.”
