St Rita’s College Clayfield principal Dale Morrow has announced she will step down at the end of the 2023 school year, sparking a wide search for a new leader.

Mrs Morrow has been principal of the highly-regarded northside Catholic girls’ school, which has about 1000 students, for the past 15 years.

She previously served as deputy principal for seven years.

The first lay principal of the College, she was instrumental in adding Year 5 and Year 6 students at the St Rita’s campus.

Other Catholic girls’ schools, including Toowong’s Stuartholme School, have since embraced the concept.

Mrs Morrow has steered many other changes at the college such as a rebuilding program at its Trinity Centre in 2020, as well as educational development.

In a statement of resignation to the College Board, Mrs Morrow said she had always had a “deep commitment to education and a special interest in girls’ education as a powerful tool for changing lives and changing society”.

Mrs Morrow has twice been awarded a prestigious ACEL Fellowship, in 2020 and last year, has served as an Adviser to the Australian Government Education Workforce Roundtable and has chaired the Education Committee for Religious Institute schools.

College Board Chair, Graham McManus, said she was a “dynamic leader’’.

“Her greatest motivation has always been the welfare of students and the ability for all to follow their goals, whatever they may be,” he said.

“She has demonstrated a clear commitment to the presentation ideal of empowering young people through education and (also) challenges the students to be strong leaders in the community.”

The College Board has begun searching for a new principal, engaging an education executive search organisation.
