Boondall Figure Ice Skating Club athletes at the prestigious Crystal Challenge

How’s this for high sporting achievers - 33 athletes, 23 medals? That was the performance by Boondall Figure Ice Skating Club athletes at the prestigious Crystal Challenge.

Boondall Figure Ice Skating Club have dominated the prestigious Ice-Skating Australia benchmark mark event, the Crystal Challenge, bringing home 23 medals.

Five goal medals and 18 podium finishes were secured by the 33 strong squad over the gruelling four day event.

Boondall Figure Ice Skating Club’s gold rush was started by Zofia Forbes who won a tightly contested Freeskate 2 Division, with clubmate Luna Chan finishing in third place.

In the Intermediate Women’s Division, Kathrin Macak nailed a clean program and personal best score on the way to gold, with teammate Nia Doherty claiming the silver in a one-two finish for the club in a field of 18 competitors.

Other Boondall club winners were Jessica Rotondo in Adult Elite Women, Alex Cooke in Adult Bronze Male, and Nicola Cheyne in Adult Artistic Bronze Division.

In the Junior Women’s Division, the second highest level of competition, Sienna Kaczmarczyk and Simona Bhasin were both on the podium with second and third placings respectively.

For Bhasin, there was a personal best score also as she cracked the 100+ points barrier for the first time.

Rounding out the competition for BFISC at the highest level was Emily-Jean Kelly in Senior Women.

Kelly was within striking distance of a podium place after the Short Program but had to settle for fifth place overall at the completion of the Free Skating Program.

For many within the squad, while they did not place, it was a wonderful learning experience on their first interstate tour.
