Beaming Bronte is a gem in and out of the pool as her Australian teammates will find out

Beaming Bronte Job from Rackley Swim Team Centenary is a gem in and out of the pool as her Australian teammates will find out when they travel with her to Budapest for the world junior swimming championships later in the year.

Australian World Junior Championship team selection Bronte Job shines like a lighthouse across the Rackley Swim Team Centenary swimming pool.

Rain, hail or shine — and Damien Jones’ squad members swim in all of those conditions — Job’s white teeth shine and her personality rubs off on those who may be feeling a little flat.

Every swimming squad, indeed every sporting team, needs someone like Job.

“She is energetic, bubbly. She is always having a good time,’’ coach Jones said.

“No. 1 for her is this is a sport, it is a passion, and you have to enjoy it every day because it is gruelling.

“To have someone who is as bubbly and energetic nearly all of the time is infectious.

“It lifts the whole environment. And that energy bounces on to the person next to her.’’

So what a person to have on the Australian team when it leaves our shores in August bound for Budapest and the championships which start on August 20.

And what a swimmer she is as well.

At last month’s Australian Age Championships, the year 11 All Hallows’ School student went boom.

In her 100m backstroke she cut her personal best by more than two seconds and in her 50m freestyle sliced around one second off her previous PB.

Her form has exploded since leaving her junior club at Stones Corner, Brisbane Jets, and joining Jones’ stable at Rackley Centenary.

“This year has gone up hill pretty fast,’’ said Job, who only joined Jones’ at the start of last year.

“Damien changed my stroke quite a bit and just the way I train. And my attitudes to training has changed a bit,’’ added job, who looks up to Olympian Emily Seebohm and admires her training partner Thomas Neill.

Although she has gone to another level, Job has nothing but the fondest of memories for her time at Brisbane Jets.

After all, she spent from the age of five years to 14 years going up and down the Langlands Park pool.

“I really liked it there but my coach from there moved, and it is more of a junior squad. So it was a better time for me to move.’’

And the move is paying off not only for Job, but for her teammates as well who benefit from having her around the squad.
