What is the most exciting thing about being a school captain?

One of the most exciting things about being school captain is that we get to work with other students that are the same age as us and create beautiful and complex things by working together. The student leadership team is where we get to work together, your ideas are respected. It is what you could call a “perfect team” although it isn’t the best team, it is where you and your ideas are taken into thought, where you can also have an input on your school pros and cons. Another exciting thing is that you also get to help your peers and allow their voice to be heard. The student leaders are also the insiders, we can talk to the students on the same level and really see what they need and want.

What are you required to do as school captain?

Every Monday at first lunch, we have a student leadership meeting that includes the entire leadership team; school captains, school vice-captains, sports captains, arts captain, school leaders, and library leaders. That afternoon in last session, we also have our weekly school assembly, this is lead by our leaders. We also have lunchtime duty where we help the teachers on duty. Some other responsibilities include helping out at school events (concerts, discos, movie nights etc), putting up and taking down the flags, and generally assisting whenever needed.

What one thing do you want to achieve for your school this year?

Each year, the two school captains and the two school vice-captains do a legacy project with the student council. For example, last year, our captains decided to get some vests that student leaders could wear when we are helping either on lunch time duty or other events. This year, we might improve our bottle and can collection to make it more efficient. Alongside this, I would personally like to get everyone’s voices heard. Right from the younger grades so that it is all students that have a voice. Student leaders can help with this.
