Samford long jumper Abbie French will be off to the national titles buoyed by her state title performance.

The Ferny Grove State High School student won a gold medal competing up a division in the under 16 age group.

French said the performance did give her a little confidence but she was not getting carried away.

“Every comp is different and there could be a lot of new talent out there but I guess it’s how you perform on the day,’’ she said.

French said she had been training well entering the state titles and knew she had a good performance in her.

“Like my coach says, every training session is like putting money in the bank,’’ French said.

“All my training has good value whether I feel it’s a good training session or not. I guess I had good form on the day.’’
