A YOUNG cat is lucky to be alive after impaling himself on a fence in Brisbane’s north.

RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said they don’t believe the 18-month-old male ragdoll cat was deliberately impaled.

“We think the cat was leaping over the fence and got caught. Those spikes are really sharp,” he said.

Mr Beatty said an RSPCA ambulance team responded to a call from Aspley yesterday morning.

“The ambulance team was able to remove the cat from the spike,” he said.

“The spike went in near the tail and didn’t damage any organs. The cat’s now resting okay after surgery.

“He’s a very lucky cat — lucky he was found and rescued.

“I think he was noticed quite soon after it happened. If he had been there for 24 hours or something like that he would have been dead.”
