Popular boxing gym UBX Mitchelton closes suddenly

Mystery surrounds the reason why a boxing gym linked to a worldwide brand has suddenly shut its doors in Brisbane’s north.

A newly renamed and rebranded gym at a Brisbane Shopping Centre has suddenly closed its doors.

Crozing Enterprises Pty Ltd, trading as UBX Mitchelton went into voluntary liquidation on September 18.

The gym was housed at Brookside Shopping Centre and originally opened in February 2019 as a 12RND Fitness gym.

It offered a boxing-based fitness training system, with the Australian gym brand co-founded by Australian boxer Danny Green.

The gym was rebranded and named UBX Mitchelton in May 2022, as were other 12RND locations across Australia.

Head of marketing for Retail First, which operates Brookside, Bec Gascoigne confirmed UBX Mitchelton closed on September 16 because it was insolvent.

Ms Gascoigne added Retail First had not yet been contacted by liquidators.

The appointed liquidators Mark Pearce and Michael Dullaway of Pearce & Heers declined to comment.

Brookside Shopping Centre marketing manager Christian Polglase said the gym for UBX Mitchelton still had time on the lease with the shopping centre despite its closure.

Mr Polglase added that the franchisee had been coordinating with centre management recently on the process of closing down and entering into liquidation.

“It’s unfortunate for the franchisee and the members too,” Mr Polglase said.

“It was previously a 12RND fitness and when I came here in 2020 it had been there a while already before changing to a UBX in April, 2022.”

UBX offers unique boxing and strength full body workouts in under 45 minutes, as participants learn the sport of boxing from an expert.

UBX was founded by Tim West and four-time world champion Australian boxer Danny Green, UBX began franchising in 2016 under its Australian brand, 12RND Fitness.

There is no suggestion other UBX gyms are at risk of closure.
