Sleep has become a little harder to come by in Brisbane’s Paddington where one resident’s noisy “sexcapades” have been keeping up the neighbours, according to a strongly worded letter posted to social media.
In a post to the r/brisbane subreddit on Monday, an anonymous local resident shared a letter she’d received from her new neighbour, begging her to “please, please close (her) windows”.
The letter, addressed to the “noisy neighbours”, informed the recipient the walls at the unit complex were “paper thin”, allowing them to hear absolutely everything that went on inside their bedroom.
“We were woken up this morning at around 12.30am mortified, drifting from what we thought (was) a nightmare into reality with the sounds of … loud moaning and groaning,” the letter read.
“If this happens again, we will call in for noise control and will name and shame your address on the Paddington/Milton Facebook news group.
“There are recovering sex and porn addicts living in the flats next to you who would appreciate that you keep any nudity and sexcadades private, like normal respectful people do.”
The post attracted significant attention on Reddit, where it received upwards of 1000 upvotes and 290 comments, which varied in tone from chastising the “sex-shaming” neighbours to urging the poster to consider taking steps to alleviate the noise problem.

The letter’s recipient called her neighbour a “Karen” and said, while she found the letter amusing, would heed its advice.
“I don’t actually want to disturb my neighbours’ sleep and I don’t particularly want them hearing me having sex, so of course I’m going to try and keep it down and shut my god damn windows,” she said.
“Just don’t be a d**k about it next time.”
