A well-known NRL player accused of rape will face another charge of sexual assault in the coming weeks, a Brisbane court has heard.

Police will allege the man, who cannot be identified at this stage of proceedings, raped a woman at Fortitude Valley nightclub The Prince Consort on December 11 last year.

He was charged with the offence on January 14, with his matter first mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 15 and again on Monday. He did not appear but was represented by a lawyer.

The court heard there was another matter regarding the NRL player with Queensland Police Prosecutions that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions intended to take carriage of. It was listed for mention on March 15.

“I’ve just got one charge of rape here,” Deputy Chief Magistrate Anthony Gett said on Monday.

“There’s another charge coming in?”

“There is another charge,” the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ Aisling Kennedy said.

According to court documents, the man will face a further charge of sexual assault over an incident which allegedly occurred on December 21 last year in Brisbane City.

Police previously alleged he inappropriately placed his hand on a woman at a venue. The matter was first mentioned in court on January 18 and will be mentioned for the third time on March 15.

Mr Gett adjourned the matter to April 24. The accused’s bail was enlarged and his appearance excused at next mention.

It is understood the NRL player has been stood down following a number of breaches to his club’s code of conduct.
