The 2018/19 State Budget contains the first instalment of the $26 million needed to alleviate congestion at a notorious intersection at Everton Park.
It contains $10 million for a bypass of the Stafford Rd/South Pine Rd intersection for some traffic.
Another $10 million is shown in 2019-20 and $6 million in 2020-21.
In the lead up to last year’s state election both Labor and the LNP promised to build the new road, dubbed the Everton Park Link Rd.
It will run from Stafford Rd to South Pine Rd, east of the old Masters building and North-West Homemaker Centre, to South Pine Rd near Kedron Brook.
Transport and Main Roads (TMR) said the preferred option would give many drivers a more direct route.
TMR said it would reduce traffic congestion at the Stafford Rd/South Pine Rd intersection.
Current plans have access from the new road to the homemaker centre.
TMR also said the new road would allow removal of right turns from South Pine Rd into Stafford Rd, and South Pine Rd into Griffith St, during peak times, allowing more “green light time” for vehicles on the major routes.
The corridor for the new road has already been acquired.
The Budget also has an extra $250,000 to complete the business cases for the Samford Rd review.
This TMR study is looking at ways to improve traffic flow between from Dawson Pde, Keperra, and Imbross St, Gaythorne.
It is due for completion later this year.
