A ritzy Brisbane area is losing a fan favourite with a popular restaurant and bar to sell its final pizza later this year.
Kellum Tate, the owner of Meltz Gourmet Pizza Bar at 161 Racecourse Rd, Ascot, earlier this week announced the restaurant would close at the end of June.
The venue at the entrance to the Eagle Farm Racecourse, had become a favourite among local residents and Brisbane foodies after opening in late 2017.
Meltz was known for its tasty pizzas, burgers and ribs as well as being a place where customers could watch their favourite sports and enjoy a beer, wine or cocktail.
But Mr Tate made the decision to close after being unable to renegotiate the lease.
“It was a very long and difficult decision to make,” he said.
“The online support and comments from our customers after announcing the decision has been amazing, we have had people calling the shop phone to say how gutted they are and even people walking past stopping in to say they have heard the news, and where will they get there pizza fix from now.”
Despite making the decision to move on, Mr Tate said he hoped someone would carry the Meltz brand on to a different location.
“For me, and my team, the perfect scenario would be for someone to take the business to a new location and have Meltz live on.
“Meltz is an iconic local business that is ready to be moved on to a new location so the brand and culture we have built can still live on.”
Mr Tate said he was proud of what he and his team had built over more than three years of operating.

“I am most proud of the culture we built, how welcome people felt and the friendships that have been made along the way, not just with myself and my customers, but also between customers,” he said.
“We have built a real Meltz family, we even had one proposal take place at the bar.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their support and well wishes, and I hope to see them all in the coming months.”
