Magistrate slams ‘serial’ DV offender calling him a ‘thug and a bully’

A magistrate has called a man a “thug and a bully who stands over women” after he pleaded guilty to his sixth domestic violence offence.

The Bray Park man, who cannot be named, sent more than a dozen abusive text messages to his former partner despite an order banning him from contacting her.

The court heard the 30-year-old father of three girls sent 13 messages to his former partner in a single day.

In the messages he said she had “f*** ruined my family” and told her she would “burn in the fire”.

The woman blocked the man from sending her messaged and reported the contact to Logan police.

He pleaded guilty at Pine Rivers Magistrates Court to breaching a domestic violence order.

The court heard the man was a ‘serial offender’ offence was his sixth domestic violence offence, including one where he took a hammer to a former partner’s car.

Magistrate Barbara Tynan said the man was a “thug and a bully who stands over women” and was setting a dangerous example for his daughters.

“Let’s skip forward until they are in their early 20s,” she said.

“Imagine one of them comes home and tells you this is happening to them.”

The man said “it would be upsetting” if his daughter’s suffered domestic violence.

Ms Tynan said his repeated violence towards women was teaching his daughters that the behaviour was acceptable.

“Where does she learn something like this? From you,” she said.

“If you behave like that towards women your daughters will learn that is acceptable.”

The man was ordered to serve probation for two years, a conviction was recorded.
