She said it was “a tremendous honour” to represent the ward, which stretches from Aspley to the Wetlands Reserve near Bald Hills and includes Carseldine, Bracken Ridge and parts of Zillmere.

“Having grown up in our local area I’ve always known how special it is,” she said.

“We live in a great part of Brisbane and I’m determined to keep it that way and protect our way of life.

“I know how important it is for councillors to really understand the local area they represent. I grew up right here, spending my first 21 years in our local area.

“I attended Nashville Primary School and Bracken Ridge State High School with my sister and two brothers.

“Once I graduated from university I even undertook my first teacher training at Aspley State High.”

Ms Landers then taught in Aramac and in Mackay before returning to Brisbane’s northside to teach at Craigslea State High and Albany Creek State High.

“Teaching gives you a real, hands-on opportunity to make a genuine difference in people’s lives. It often involves helping both children and their parents and is both extremely challenging and rewarding.”

Ms Landers said she had a desire to “be involved” and had always been about “making a difference”.

“I worked for both a State and Federal Member of Parliament (Tim Mander and Peter Dutton, respectively) so that I could gain a better understanding of how decisions are made and how local problems could be fixed,” she said.

“I have a pretty straightforward way of looking at things — governments need to be focused on delivering real benefits to local communities.

“While our area has changed a lot since I went to primary school here, some things have remained the same — our neighbourhood spirit, our strong sense of community.

“These are just some of the things that make our local area such a great place to live, raise a family or retire.

“As your local councillor I will do what I’ve always striven to do in my life — listen, work hard and deliver the best outcomes that I can,” Ms Landers said.
