Life as a $1200-a-week ice addict

A Brisbane mum-of-five who grew up in the Wide Bay region hardly touched drugs for the first 31 years of her life, but following the breakdown of a seven-year relationship spiralled into addiction and dealing.

Nundah woman Jasmine Louise Lousick, 39, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Tuesday to nine counts of supplying methamphetamine.

The court heard the offences occurred between May 3 – 26 last year.

They were detected as part of Operation Romeo Swift targeting drug crime in north Brisbane.

As part of the operation, police obtained a warrant to surveil the telephone of a known drug-user and dealer, on which was found messages from Lousick relating to the supply of street-levels of ice.

Lousick was granted bail but ultimately remanded in custody on July 17 this year for unrelated matters still before the courts.

The court heard Lousick had no criminal history up until the age of 31, but since then had been before the courts “consistently” for drug, property and dishonesty-type offending.

They included 13 convictions for possessing dangerous drugs, six of failing to appear and three of breaching bail.

Her current offending breached several suspended sentences.

Defence counsel John Jacob told the court his client was introduced to methamphetamine by the father of her first three children.

Following the breakdown of their seven-year relationship, she “increasingly used” until it became “problematic”.

He said prior to the relationship ending, she was a “productive worker and loving mother”, who grew up in the Isis area near Childers and worked in hospitality.

Lousick was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment with parole release on January 16 next year.
