A HOTEL group has withdrawn its offer for the former RSL Memorial Club in Sandgate, but another group has taken its place.
This means it could be another two months before a decision is known on the future of the club, which closed more than 13 months ago.
SANDGATE RSL SUB BRANCH RECEIVES OFFER FOR FORMER MEMORIAL CLUB
In December, Sandgate RSL Sub Branch president Peter McNamara revealed a hotel group had made a conditional offer to buy or lease the club, which is owned by the Sub Branch.
The group had 60 days to consider their options, with a decision expected by early this month.
However that offer was withdrawn on Friday.
“Surprisingly an offer was made immediately by another hotel group for close to the same terms,” Mr McNamara said.
“The committee members have been approached already and if our members are satisfied (with the new offer) we will go ahead.”
Members will meet next Wednesday.

“So we start again,” Mr McNamara said.
“There is nothing to stop us from moving on and we’re hoping for a positive outcome.”
The memorial club, which traded as Club Sandgate, closed on January 9 last year following a creditor’s meeting where it was revealed it owed more than $1 million, most to the Australian Taxation Office.
The adjacent Sandgate RSL Sub Branch owns both the building and the land on which it sits.
