IF Dave Kramer had his way there would not be a young person living on the streets in Brisbane and so he has adopted an unusual tactic to help stop it — doing burpees.

Using personal experience as inspiration, Dave “the Trainer” is hosting a burpees challenge to raise awareness and funds for Fortitude Valley-based Brisbane Youth Service (BYS).

He is calling on the fitness community to either join or support him in a Youth Homelessness Matters Day challenge to break his 3000-burpees-in-eight-hours record while raising money for BYS.

“When I was younger, really until I was six, we had different houses or caravans or housing commissions and it wasn’t great,” Mr Kramer said.

“A lot of the time we didn’t have a lot of food ... until my aunty stepped in.”

The latest ABS Census figures show every night 4500 young Queenslanders face homelessness.

Mr Kramer hopes to raise $15,000 to fund BYS programs. To support challenge go to brisyouth.org/burpeesforbys
