“He often beeps to let me know he’s left the mail or leaves it on the doorstep for us,” Ms Hayward said.
“Obviously from the sign he has seen we are in isolation and he’s beeped this morning and I’ve thought he’s left an envelope.”
Instead of an envelope the Hayward’s had been gifted a box of chocolates and a toilet roll.
“He really lifted our spirits especially with what’s been going on with toilet rolls,” she said.
The family, who had been holidaying in New Zealand and returned on Tuesday, are undertaking self-isolation for 14 days as required by new coronavirus measures to help stop the spread of the virus.
“It was just so unexpected,” Ms Hayward said.
“We are all in good spirits. Now of us are sick or even remotely unwell but we are doing what is necessary.”
The family of four, who have been chatting with their local postie for “a long time but don’t even know his name” just wanted to say a big thank you for his kindness.
“I just chat with him sometimes… about the weather or I don’t know just banter … we’ve been chatting for as long as he’s been our postie,” Ms Hayward said.
“He’s a tall guy in his 40s maybe. A really nice fellow who always goes the extra mile.
“To see our sign yesterday and then come back today … it just really lifted our spirits… a really lovely thing especially when you see what is going on with the things on the television.”
Ms Hayward said the family is busy reading, doing puzzles “it’s one of those things, we are doing what’s in place and we understand.”
