AN extra 10 Tactical Crime Squad officers have joined Hendra Police Station and will be involved in a new community safety blitz in Brisbane’s north.
Operation Hendra Reduce will target crime in Nundah, Wavell Heights, Northgate and Banyo.
In announcing the operation, Member for Nudgee Leanne Linard said it would concentrate on reducing offences such as unlawful use of motor vehicles, unlawful entry of vehicles, unlawful entry of dwellings and businesses, and stealing from vehicles.

“Operation Hendra Reduce will see high volume, high visibility patrols, and boosted covert initiatives to detect, deter, prevent and prosecute offenders,” Ms Linard said.
She said the squad would use automatic number plate recognition equipment to detect stolen vehicles and Polair helicopters for dangerous pursuits.
“I’m also pleased to announce that bicycle patrols will also begin, with additional police officers, in a three-to six-month trial,” Ms Linard said.

The Queensland Police Service encourages people to report suspicious activity and to also assist in the prevention of offences by securing vehicles and residences, locking away valuable items, recording serial numbers or having items inscribed to allow easy identification.
“My community will see more police more often,” Ms Linard said.
“That is what our community called for. Following concerns raised with me by our community, I met with the Commissioner of Police and Minister for Police to push hard for more police and police resources to boost community safety in our area.
“I thank the Commissioner and Minister for taking those concerns seriously and responding accordingly.”
