Fears of another accident involving cyclists and pedestrians has seen someone place signs and other items on a bridge in a bid to make riders slow down.
Traffic cones, followed by toys and garlands, were recently placed on the bridge connecting Bungama St, Deagon, with Curlew Park.
Posters on the cones and on posts at the bridge urged riders to slow down to prevent someone else being injured there – referencing an incident involving a small boy being seriously hurt.
Public transport angst pushing towards more pedestrian, cycle paths
But Brisbane City Council is now investigating after a post on Bicycle Queensland’s Facebook page drew an angry response from some.
One person asked: “If the cones cause an accident, who will be liable for the installation of unsafe infrastructure?”
Another said they would report this “dangerous vigilante campaign” to the council.
But there were defenders. A cyclist said they slowed down to read the signs. “(It’s a) bit of common sense really. It’s a narrow blind area, so no point trying to rush through there.”
The arch shape of the bridge limits visibility from one side to the other.
Council has confirmed it is investigating two complaints about incidents at the bridge – one regarding a speeding cyclist and another about traffic cones on the bridge.

A council spokesman said it had not been notified by the police about any pedestrian or cyclist safety incidents at the bridge.
Traffic cones photographed on the bridge on Sunday had gone early this week.
