Music lovers are contributing to the congestion problems on a major Brisbane road, helping to propel it into the top 10 in the RACQ’s 2019 Red Spot Congestion Survey.
The dubious honour went to South Pine Rd, with two locations earning the most negative comments by respondents — the intersections with Stafford Rd, Everton Park, and Eatons Crossing Rd, Eatons Hill.
It was number five on the list, behind the Pacific Motorway, the Centenary Motorway, Gympie Rd and the Bruce Highway.
The major complaints about South Pine Rd were it did not have enough lanes or capacity, the through traffic congestion or long queues, and congested right or left turns.
Many also complained of the poor synchronisation of traffic lights.

One respondent said: “The road coming out of the Eatons Hill Hotel regularly blocks up with traffic on Friday and Saturday nights in particular if there is a special concert.”
Another said: “Travelling northbound through Albany Creek across Cash’s bridge the traffic is banked up for kilometres. Not enough left hand turn lane into Eaton’s crossing road. Traffic scoots down the right hand lane then pushes back into LH lane to turn left.”
The Stafford Rd section came in for harsh criticism from several respondents, with one saying they wanted to sell their house and move because of it.
“This is an urgent must fix. It is the worst road and intersection in Brisbane. The opening of the Airport Link tunnel and all the traffic flowing onto Stafford Rd has made this worse and completely untenable,” they said.
In September the State Government announced design work had started for the $26 million Everton Park Link Road (EPLR) which was developed to take some traffic from the South Pine Rd/Stafford Rd intersection.
Construction is due to begin in late 2019.
Samford Rd came in at number 19 with the main complaints being not enough capacity, and through traffic congestion or long queues.
Stafford Rd was way down the list at 68 while Beckett Rd was at 88, Osbourne Rd at Mitchelton was at 100 and Enoggera Rd, Enoggera/Newmarket was at 162.
The RACQ will make the results available to federal, state and local governments, and use the data to help prioritise its advocacy work.
