BUSINESS BOOM: The new north Brisbane businesses you need to know
Peek inside the new ventures, new locations and new management changing the business landscape on Brisbane’s northside.
North
Don't miss out on the headlines from North. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Business is booming in Brisbane’s north where local entrepreneurs are pushing forward with plans for cafes, florists, homemade products and more, seemingly undeterred by the impact of coronavirus-related closures earlier in the year.
With so much happening across the northern suburbs, it can be difficult to keep up with the changing business landscape that sees new ventures launching, new locations opening and new management promising bigger and better things.
Quest Community News has broken down the biggest changes you need to know about in your community over the last week, with details on how to support local business ahead of the Christmas rush.
The Pot Drop
The self-professed “best pot dealer in Brisbane” will open their first brick and mortar store in Stafford tomorrow, where shoppers can purchase a wide variety of on-trend pots and plants.
The company first launched online in late July, offering Brisbane residents the opportunity to “redefine gift-giving” by purchasing a potted plant from their online store with same day local delivery.
The team will open their new headquarters at 3/4 Harvton St from 7.30am to 2pm tomorrow.

Malia and Mae
An environmentally-conscious family from Sandgate launched their own line of handcrafted heirloom toys for children on November 21 at the Redcliffe Christmas Markets, and opened their first online store on December 1.
Founders Grace Donnell and her father Paul were inspired to begin their business when they were both stood down from their careers in aviation.
Each toy is an educational resource, crafted from premium wood and designed to last a lifetime.
The business has also partnered with One Tree Planted, so proceeds of each sale go towards planting trees across the country to help with reforestation following the devastating bushfire season of 2019/20.

Two Buds Collective
The business-savvy florists at Two Buds Collective know that people want memories, and flowers, that will last a lifetime.
The florist specialises in dried, preserved, real touch and silk flowers for all occasions and has just opened up their new store, under their new name, at 473 St Vincent’s Rd in Nudgee.
Previously known as Silk Road Floral, the business has expanded to offer jewellery, home decor and plants in addition to their bouquets.
The new store is located in the old post office, a historical building that hasn’t been used as a shop in decades.

Flow Motion Yoga Studio
For those seeking some zen after the hectic year that was 2020, a boutique yoga studio will soon open in Bald Hills, headed up by local residents Gabrielle Hobson and Michael Lloyd.
The pair opened their first studio in Zillmere in February and have spent recent weeks preparing the new space for their grand opening in January.
The studio plans to offer guided Yoga sessions that focus on the connection of breath and movement for a meditative practice, as well as reiki healing and chakra balancing.

The Ole’ Dairy
Two north Brisbane women banded together to breathe new life into Banyo’s old dairy, where they now offer a modern culinary take on childhood classics such as ice cream sandwiches and fluffy, golden pancakes.
The Ole’ Dairy, which opened at 250 St Vincents Rd this week, is the brainchild of 2017 MasterChef contestant Benita Orwell and former international flight attendant Katrina Matthews.
Their signature dish will be a crab sandwich featuring fresh spanner crab sourced locally from Fraser Island, while Mrs Matthews pancakes are set to be a big drawcard for the breakfast crowd.

Ipoh Laksa
It’s a fresh start for the well-known Asian restaurant Ipoh Laksa at 1/333 Gympie Rd, Strathpine, which has come under new management, and a new head chef this week.
The new team wanted to create a dining experience that felt welcoming, with delicious, no-nonsense food at very reasonable prices.
They take online orders, phone orders and eat in diners. Bookings are not necessary.
