With promises of 100 per cent rude staff along with some ‘kick-ass’ burgers, a controversial new diner is set to open at one of Brisbane’s major shopping centres this month.
Known for their sarcastic comments and less-than-average customer service, Karen’s Diner will be the latest restaurant to join Westfield Chermside when it launches on May 18.
The restaurant brand had initially been planned for Southbank in January however Chermside will now be home to the city’s theatrical restaurant, following the opening of sites including Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
Boasting a motto on their website which dares their customers to push their buttons:
“Our staff are rude, our manners are non existent and we‘re the perfect place for Karens everywhere to vent their anger and dismay at the world. Come on, ask for the manager … WE DARE YOU.”
Karen’s Diner manager, Aden Levin said he was thrilled to be opening the venue.
“It’s amazing … lots of keen interest and booking rates are going off,” he said.
Karen’s Diner is known for it's ‘unfriendly’ service but Mr Levine assured customers of a unique and fun experience.
“It’s obviously a niche trade market for having rude, unfriendly, abrasive staff but whilst also providing a really fun and engaging dining experience,” he said.
“People can expect a new dining experience like no other.”
Known for pushing boundaries, Mr Levine said Karen’s Diner was a chance for customers to express themselves and was also a win for hospitality staff because it provided them with a chance to let out some frustration.
“It’s a nice safe space where they can be themselves, because there‘s no real judgment where we are. If you’re an introvert you can kind of let go a little bit and actually relax,” he said.
“(It’s also) A chance for hospitality to give back when they’ve been on the receiving end of all that frustration”.
Mr Levin hoped the diner will open permanently in Chermside Westfield but said there was a chance they could move.
“We will be in Brisbane for the foreseeable future, it just might change locations,” he said.
