The $20 million proposal to revamp the iconic sporting club, which is open to public consultation until the end of February, would involve a two stage upgrade to revitalise tired, 40-year-old facilities at the community hub.

The second part of stage 1 would see the creation of a game and training facility to meet QRU Premier Rugby standards, improved change rooms, medical facilities, club gym and canteen facilities.

This stage would include toilet and change room improvements for the 1100 women or girls who play either rugby or touch football at Brothers.

He said not only would the 2400 rugby or touch football players benefit from improvements, but so would schools using the club for sporting activities like softball and cross country, along with community groups using function rooms.

“The aim is to continue to grow our relationships and provide better facilities for all to use,’’ Kaye said.

He said off the field spectators, who support the club in their droves during the rugby season, would also enjoy new seating.

“We are the biggest community rugby club in Australia without doubt,’’ he said.

“The financial model we think is sustainable to fund the development and the future sustainability of the club,’’ Kaye said.

Kaye said he was eager to hear community feedback.

“We welcome the feedback. It is in the concept stage, nothing is set in concrete and we would like to hear from people,’’ he said.

The Brothers Rugby brand, with six Wallaby captains on the honour board, would be arguably the most well known in the code in Australia alongside Randwick in Sydney.
