The owners of a Brisbane gym with a specialised high altitude training studio, have been forced call it quits.
ALT Newstead Pty Ltd (Air Locker Training, Newstead) at 76 Skyring Terrace, Brisbane, entered into voluntary liquidation this month.
Air Locker Training, Newstead focused on group workouts in a high altitude training studio with reduced oxygen levels, designed to help members burn 30 percent more calories along with a host of other reported health benefits.
By the time Robson Cotter Insolvency Group was appointed to handle the liquidation on November 8, the gym had less than half a dozen employees, according to director Bill Cotter.
Air Locker Training, Newstead operated less than two years and Mr Cotter said it was a family enterprise with a couple of shareholders.
Mr Cotter said the gym would have closed only a few days before he was appointed.
“They made a hard decision early before things got to bad and too many people were adversely impacted,” Mr Cotter said.
“It got to the point where they couldn’t see it was viable.
“I’m not aware of it (the debt) being substantial or a lot of outstanding in the way of trade suppliers.
“I don‘t believe there’s a large amount being owed to employees and creditors.”
The director of ALT Newstead Pty Ltd has 10 days to provide a detailed report to Mr Cotter on why the business has filed for voluntary liquidation and the exact amount of debt outstanding.
The Air Locker Training has otherwise experienced success with 21 locations across Australia and some advertised to be opening soon, including one at Chermside, 924 Gympie Road.
In fact, Air Locker Training, Townsville is opening this weekend.
On Air Locker Training, Newstead’s Facebook page November 6, there was a post saying only morning classes were available this week, with a Google search saying the gym was permanently closed.
