The owners of an expensive, luxury sports car demanded $10,000 in damages from a young Samford woman at the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court this week, implicating her in what would have been a very costly mistake.

Scarlet Jane McPherson said she didn't mean to damage the expensive car.

The court heard Scarlet Jane McPherson, 19, was on her morning walk on Kobble Creek Rd on September 12, listening to music and skipping stones against the bitumen when one such stone happened to strike the roof of a Lotus Evora GT 410, a car which has a cost price of between $189,000 and $198,000.

Police prosecutor Graham Turner said the victim and the witness had seen McPherson “throwing something out on the path” then heard a loud bang as a rock hit the roof of the vehicle.

The driver turned around to chase down the defendant and call the police.

Officers took longer than 30 minutes to attend to the scene, so McPherson called her mother to pick her up and take her home, where she was later interviewed on September 29.

The owners of the luxury car asked Scarlet Jane McPherson to pay $10,000 in damages. The Magistrate chose not to order the restitution.

McPherson pleaded guilty to putting a stone on the road that was likely to cause injury to the car, but told Magistrate Trevor Morgan she hadn’t intended to cause any damage.

“I was just skimming stones across the road,” she said.

“The car was speeding around a corner, that’s why I didn’t see it.”

McPherson was fined $200 and not ordered to pay any restitution.

No conviction was recorded.
