Brisbane singer-songwriter Kimberley Bowden is a seasoned performer but it has taken her years to get up the courage to try out for The Voice.
After more than a decade of gigging around Brisbane, after moving down from far North Queensland, she is on Team Delta (Goodrem) on season eight of the show.
Bowden, who is still “a Tully girl” at heart, said her country roots helped shape her musical direction.

She brought a bit of country to her Blind Audition song choice, of Tina Arena’s Sorrento Moon (I Remember) on season eight of The Voice.
The Stafford resident dedicated the audition to her father, Geoff, who died 18 months ago after suffering a major heart attack.
Bowden’s father was her “number one musical supporter”, who even learnt guitar when
she was young so he could accompany her when she was singing.
“He was really an amazing father,” Bowden said.
“I was a lucky girl to have him for as long as I did.
“I think he’d be proud of me going on The Voice and putting in all my effort to further my career.”
Delta Goodrem and Boy George were thoroughly impressed with Bowden’s performance and both wanted her for their teams, but Bowden chose Team Delta.
Next week she will go head-to-head with two fellow contestants during the Knock Out round.
“The experience has already given me a lot of confidence,” Bowden said.
“The crew and other contestants on The Voice are amazing.
“I truly believe The Voice creators want the best for the artists.”
Bowden has two well-received EPs under her belt and a new single I can’t Stop Livin’ It.
She has taken out finalist positions in the Toyota Star Maker Awards (2008), Q Song Awards (2009) and the Billy Thorpe Scholarship (2009), and completed song writing stints in Nashville, Tennessee.
Bowden’s choice to apply for The Voice was “out of character” for the 31-year-old who admitted her confidence of late had been lacking.
“I finally felt brave enough to do it (try out for a reality TV singing competition),” she said.
“I think I have something unique to offer,” she said.
“I dream of being able to do concerts.
“I love being able to write my own music and sing it.
“If I didn’t write my own songs, I wouldn’t record them.”
