More than 2500 drug arrests have been made in Brisbane’s northside in the past two years.

Analysis of police data from 2017/18 and 2018/19 showed 2533 drug-related charges were made.

Chermside recorded the highest number of drug arrests with 325 arrests during the two year period followed by Nundah (315) and Bracken Ridge (214).

A Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said the results were “often as a result of ... proactive operations”.

The spokesman said QPS continued to work with “external or partner agencies to combat drugs and illicit substances within our community”.

“Members of the public can remain confident that proactive, intelligence-led operations continue to disrupt the production and supply of dangerous drugs,” the spokesman said.

Other northside suburbs making the list of drug arrest hot spots since 2017 included Aspley (210) and Bald Hills (210) as well as Kedron (184), Boondall (181), Northgate (172), Carseldine (111) and Brighton (98).

The QPS spokesman said arrest data often reflected the results of “protracted operations which target the production, supply and trafficking of dangerous drugs”.

“As these large number of charges are then recorded against the suburb they occurred in, it causes a significant spike in recorded drug offences for that suburb,” the spokesman said.

“This does not mean that this particular suburb is actually seeing an increase in the number of people committing drug-related crime or large amounts of dangerous drugs on its streets.”

“Police would not have as much success without the help of the members of the public, who

continue to share vital information through Policelink and Crimestoppers,” the spokesman said.
