After years riddled with lockdowns and tough times, business figures across Brisbane are starting to see the light and share their dreams for 2023.

Communities and businesses across Brisbane have made herculean efforts to get back to normal after years of lockdowns and closed businesses but they are now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

We spoke to a businesses in Brisbane’s north to see what their New Year’s resolutions are for 2023 and what they hope for their community.

TROVE SALON – STAFFORD HEIGHTS

Owner of Trove Salon in Stafford Heights, Taylor Bagster, says her 2022 highlight was to see some normality and consistency come back to the community.

“For myself personally, the highlight was celebrating 12 months of my business,” Ms Bagster said.

“I tend to set intentions or themes for the year, 2022 was the year of saying ‘yes’ to all opportunities, professionally and personally.

“For 2023 it will be a year of growth and balance. Starting a business during Covid was a risk and a challenge but I felt it made me more accepting of any hurdles that arose.”

Ms Bagster recalled how 2022 felt for many people said “we were all in a hurry to experience life again”.

“I hope that this year we balance the things Covid taught us – like family nights at home, grabbing a coffee and going for a walk with friends,” she said.

BRISBANE NORTH BARBELL – BRENDALE

Dave Napper of Brisbane North Barbell in Brendale said their New Year’s resolution was to compete in the powerlifting championships next year.

“Our goal is to have the biggest team competing at the Powerlifting National Championships in late 2023” he said.

“I also hope to see more members of the local community reaping the rewards of adding in regular weight training sessions to their weekly routines.”

BEAN AND BARK – NUDGEE BEACH

Brianna Young and Danule Taylor run Bean and Bark from their coffee truck at Nudgee Beach and said their personal goal for 2023 was to buy a home.

“We started looking in December and are constantly refreshing the browser to search,” Ms Young said.

The couple said their 2022 highlight was converting their coffee caravan to run off battery power.

“It’s a major step towards becoming a sustainable business” Ms Young said.

They also said they were excited for growth within their business next year.

“Danule and I have been running our business, Bean And Bark, for four years now and are hoping to find our first full-time staff member so we can continue growing,” Ms Young said.

“We’re very excited to see what 2023 brings our way.”

REMY’S – PADDINGTON

Dane Huitfeldt of Remy’s in Paddington said 2023 would be a year of building their team.

“With a really strong focus on improving our training systems for staff,” Mr Huitfeldt said

“Along with putting a lot of extra time, effort and money into our employee culture and support structure.”

Mr Huitfeldt said their staff was their priority after how the last few years had been.

“Our team, like so many, have been run off their feet these past years” he said.

“Running on adrenaline and anxiety while doing their best to take on extra hours and more responsibility at short notice.

“We want to do a better job of looking after and rewarding them.”

TAMARA LEE – RAY WHITE REAL ESTATE KELVIN GROVE

Tamara Lee of Ray White Kelvin Grove said the goals for her team in 2023 was to be slow and steady as a business.

“We want to try to add an extra one per cent to everything we do” she said.

“2022 was quite reactive for the housing market, so getting back to basics and giving huge customer service to our community is our philosophy for 2023.

“Personally I would like to spend more time with my family and spend more time giving back to the community at the Red Hill Bowls Club.”

DIVERSITY MODELS – NORTH BRISBANE

Monique Jeremiah of Diversity Models is getting ready to open her new business location in Brisbane’s north.

“Our 2023 goal is to discover and recruit our full Brisbane and north Brisbane team of diverse models by July” Ms Jeremiah said.

“In 2023 I wish to make Diversity Models a well-known modelling agency in the Brisbane region, known for our unique, multicultural, curvy and mature aged models.”

DOUG’S SEAFOOD CAFE – SANDGATE

Andrew Kirkman, the owner of Doug’s Seafood Cafe in Sandgate, said their New Year’s resolution is to be open every day of the year, except for Christmas Day and to be able to provide for the local community.

“We hope for 2023 to be a year free of interruption from Covid,” he said.

“With the Sandgate community safe and well and able to enjoy the beautiful foreshore area.

“Lots of sunshine, lots of socialising with friends and family and lot’s of seafood.”
