Belvedere Bar N Grill no longer relocating to another site within Portside at Hamilton

One of Brisbane’s most popular bar and restaurants is gone from an iconic riverside location for good but hope may not be lost for fans of the venue.

Hospitality businesses still recovering from ‘huge debt’

One of the city’s most popular restaurants is gone for good from the iconic waterfront precinct along the Brisbane River it called home for more than a decade but hope may not be lost for fans of the venue.

Belvedere Bar and Grill announced it was closing at its original site within Portside Wharf at Hamilton in June but part-owner Cosimo Carvignese also said they planned to relocate to a smaller location within the same precinct – where Mr and Mrs Jones Wine Bar operated.

But Mr Carvignese today posted that was no longer the case on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“When we closed Belvedere Bar and Grill at the end of June, we announced that we were moving our tenancy to a smaller place at Portside Wharf,” the Facebook post said.

“We apologise for taking so long but our door will not reopen at Portside Wharf as we have not reached an agreement with the landlord.

“We are now looking for a new location nearby.”

Mr Carvignese said he was sad the relocation within Portside Wharf didn’t happen.

“It’s definitely sad that we’re not going to be there, not just sad for me but sad for the people in that area and who live there,” he said.

“After we announced the closure of our previous location, I get a lot of messages each week from people asking when we are reopening.

“They were waiting and they were probably more excited than me and it just shows me that people are missing Belvedere.

“But life goes on, we had more than 10 years there and made a lot of people happy.”

Mr Carvignese also said fans of the venue shouldn’t lose hope in the restaurant opening again in another location.

“The company is still open, we’re looking, I want to find a good location, the right position,” he said.

“But right now I’m relaxing.”
