Bashful Brisbane Heat champion Beth Mooney blushed when compared to Adam Gilchrist earlier this week, but such is Mooney’s form across the WBBL that Gilchrist may well be pleased to be compared to her.
Mooney enters today’s WBBL semi-final double header at Allan Border Field averaging 74.66 (strike rate 126.55) in 14 domestic T20 games this season.
Such is her form, there is little doubt Mooney’s name will in paragraph No. 1 on the Melbourne Renegades game plan sheet entering today’s final.

“I don’t think l have biceps like him,’’ Mooney joked in reference to Gilchrist, the thrill-a-minute left hander who revolutionised the wicketkeeper-batsman role. “I don’t think I hit as many sixes.
“I get a bit awkward when people give me compliments.
“He was one of my favourite players growing up, he and Mike Hussey.
“I am just happy doing what I do for the team and hopefully I can help us get over the line two more times this season.’’
GRACE HARRIS A STAR EVEN BEFORE SHE BATS, BOWLS OR FIELDS
Mooney said while she was happy with her consistency this season, T20 was fickle.
“The second you start getting ahead of yourself, or getting too comfortable with where you are at, that is when you start coming undone,’’ Mooney said.
“We have seen that with a few people who have probably not performed as well as they would have liked this season, especially with the bat.’’
“For me it is about making sure my routines are the same, my processes are the same and hopefully I can provide some fireworks at the weekend.’’
AMEILIA KERR’S INSIGHT INTO WHAT MAKES THE HEAT TICK
Mooney heaped praise on “unflappable’’ captain Kirby Short for leading a more consistent team this summer
“For me it is about everything she has done in the last four years to get us where we are and she has been a massive impact on all the success we have had,’’ Mooney said.
Mooney said having a home semi-final was nice, but in finals “you are starting from scratch’’.
“We might have finished on top but at this stage it does not mean a lot,’’ she said.
With hot conditions forecast today, Mooney said whoever won through to tomorrow’s grand final would face a “test of character’’.
The WBBL finals’ double-header:
