A young tradesman has been warned by a magistrate not to make a habit of offending after he threw a sausage roll at a security guard who denied his friend entry into a pub.

Aleeda John Zamorski, 20, of Annerley faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, January 9 and pleaded guilty to assaulting a security guard at the CBD’s Victory Hotel on July 16 last year.

The court heard he attended the venue about 6.40pm along with three friends, one of whom was denied entry.

Prosecutor Acting Senior Constable Jane Macdonald said a verbal argument ensued between the group of men and security, during which Zamorski threw a sausage roll at an officer.

The young man, a steelfixer, was then said to have walked away while the commotion continued and more security officers attended.

Snr Cnst Macdonald said Zamorski then returned to the group and punched a security guard in the face. The entire assault was captured on CCTV.

Police attended and arrested everyone involved including Zamorski who complained of a sore shoulder and appeared to have a swollen right cheek.

It is understood the man he punched sustained no physical injury.

Zamorski’s lawyer told the court the 20-year-old was restrained and “taken to the ground” by the security guard after he threw the sausage roll. He was said to have suffered a fractured nose and bruised cheekbone as a result.

The young man claimed the security guard hit his head on the ground several times and deliberately broke his finger, stating: “you won’t forget me, mate”.

According to him, it was only after this interaction that he threw a punch.

Zamorski was the only person in his group of four to be charged with an offence, though the court heard two others had received an infringement notice for public nuisance.

It is understood Zamorski was unable to work for seven weeks due to his injuries.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Stephen Courtney warned the 20-year-old that he was quickly accumulating a criminal history, making reference to his previous convictions which included one of dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by alcohol.

Zamorski was fined $500 for the assault and no conviction was recorded.
