Superfish Samual Short’s extraordinary march through swimming’s 15 years age group continued last weekend when the Albany Creek Swim Club junior swept all before him at the Queensland Short Course Championships.
Short, who is competing this weekend at the New South Wales short course titles, is now the second fastest all-time 800m and 1500m in the 15 years category behind only the legendary Ian Thorpe.
Across three days of competition he snared six gold medals from four races including the 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle.
His 1500m time came in a blistering 15 minutes and 11 seconds.

Along the way he secured two Queensland records and Queensland all-comers records.
“I have short term goals of breaking Brisbane, Queensland and Australian records and hope that by doing this it keeps me on the right path to one day achieving my ultimate dream goal, which is to compete at the Olympic Games,’’ Short said, who is coached by Richard Sleight.
Short said it was exciting to be on a pathway which Thorpe was travelled.
“Ian Thorpe’s name will be etched in time forever as one of the sports true greats,’’ Short said.
“Sam Short’s name may or may not be remembered in a similar vein but irrespective of what eventuates, it is the journey that excites me and the memories that I create.
