It's the end of an era for one of Ascot's most iconic Racecourse Road businesses.
After 37 successful years, Francis and Marilyn Domenech listed their Baguette restaurant for sale.
"While Racecourse Road is just on the verge of a new resurgence, we have run out of puff and want to take time travelling and to be with our family. The decision to sell was difficult because the restaurant is so busy at the moment, but we are happy to leave future growth for the next owners," Marilyn said.
The restaurant has seen a lot of changes in Brisbane's dining scene.
When it opened its doors, seafood cocktails and veal schnitzels were considered the height of sophistication. Francis' totally different style of food - with mains a very expensive $7 - took Brisbane by surprise.
The restaurant was one of the first in the city with pavement dining, degustation menus and tapas.
A development next door, for a five-storey boutique hotel and 17 retail shops is expected to deliver a business boost to Baguette. It has been fast-tracked to open in September 2014, to take advantage of the G20 boost.
